Kay Cannon’s retelling of the classic “Cinderella” tale, starring Camila Cabello, will be released on February 5, 2021, Sony Pictures announced on Thursday.

Cabello is set to make her feature acting debut in the film written and directed by Cannon (“Blockers”). James Corden will produce alongside Leo Pearlman through their Fulwell 73 banner.

Corden came up with the original idea, and Cabello will also be involved with original music for the film. Details on the storyline are being kept under wraps, but it will focus on an ambitious young woman whose dreams are bigger than the world will allow.

Cabello was part of the girl group Fifth Harmony before departing and pursuing a solo career. Her 2018 single “Havana” was a massive hit, and became Spotify’s most-streamed song ever by a female solo artist. She is represented by WME and Roger Gold.

Cannon made her directorial debut with “Blockers,” which starred John Cena, Leslie Mann and Ike Barinholtz. Cannon also wrote the “Pitch Perfect” franchise and has other credits including “30 Rock” and “New Girl.” She is represented by WME and Ken Richman.

Sony also dated Tom Holland’s “Uncharted” for December 18, 2020, as well as Kevin Hart’s “Fatherhood,” which will now open on April 3, 2020.
