Kumail Nanjiani and Dave Bautista Get Beat Up, a Lot, in the ‘Stuber’ Red Band Trailer (Video)

Action-comedy also stars Iko Uwais, Natalie Morales, Betty Gilpin, Jimmy Tatro, Mira Sorvino and Karen Gillan

The Venn diagram of “people who love watching violence and swearing and buddy comedies” and “people who hate the gig economy” is a perfect circle Friday night, thanks to the new red band trailer for the Kumail Nanjiani and Dave Bautista action-comedy “Stuber.” You can watch it above.

The film follows Stu (Nanjiani), an Uber driver thrust into terrible danger after he picks up Vic (Bautista), a grizzled police detective who drags Stu into his scheme to catch a brutal killer. Stu must survive the horrible ordeal and work with Vic while struggling to hold on to a five star rating. Fun stuff! (Except for the fact that Stu is presumably a contract employee without health insurance.)

The main takeaway from the trailer is that these guys get beat up pretty badly over the course of their adventures together. We particularly love the moment when Bautista pulls a move that a normal action hero would unrealistically shrug off, only to (apparently) end up really badly injured.

Directed by Michael Dowse and written by Tripper Clancy, “Stuber” also stars Iko Uwais, Natalie Morales, Betty Gilpin, Jimmy Tatro, Mira Sorvino and Karen Gillan. It hits theaters July 12.
