Eugenio Derbez is set to produce a comedy feature called “Bad Dog” at Lionsgate about a dog owned by Satan, the studio announced on Tuesday.

Jeff Bushell sold his spec script “Bad Dog” to the studio, and Derbez will produce along with Ben Odell for 3Pas Entertainment and Point Grey.

“Bad Dog” tells the story about Satan’s favorite hound, Bub, that is booted out of hell by a jealous rival, only for the dog to be mistakenly adopted by a single dad and his two kids. Despite his bad ways, Bub soon begins to embrace his goodness and falls in love with the family. When Satan wants his dog back and Bub refuses, he must protect his new family from the fury of hell.

Bree Bailey will oversee for Lionsgate, Carlos Aguirre will oversee for 3Pas and Josh Fagen will oversee for Point Grey.

Bushell is best known for his Blacklist script “Ricky Stanicky,” which has Peter Farrelly attached to direct. His other credits include the Disney film “Beverly Hills Chihuahua.” Bushell is repped by Paradigm, Russell Hollander and Jeff Frankel and Allan Vainshtein at McKuin, Frankel, Whitehead, LLP.

Derbez’s remake of “Overboard” from last year, which was distributed by Lionsgate and which he produced, grossed $91 million worldwide on a $12 million budget.
