Taylor Swift Makes Surprise Appearance at Stonewall Inn During Pride Celebration (Video)

Pop star was introduced and joined by Jesse Tyler Ferguson on stage

Taylor Swift surprised people in attendance at the Stonewall Inn in New York City’s Greenwich Village neighborhood on Friday with an acoustic performance as part of Pride month.

Performing in front of a crowd of 100 people, Swift took the stage after Sara Bareilles and was introduced by “Modern Family” actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson. Then she performed an acoustic version of “Shake It Off” from 2014’s “1989.”

“I heard that this is Jesse’s favorite song to do at karaoke,” Swift said of the track, according to Rolling Stone. “So if there’s anything you feel like you want to jump in on, if there’s like, your part that you’re really good at, then, just sing, dance, just be yourself. This is a really safe space.”

“I’m so happy I don’t have to keep this secret any longer,” Ferguson tweeted. “Look who came to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Stonewall at the Stonewall Inn. @taylorswift13, you are a gem. Thank you for everything you do for the LGBTQ community. We heart you!”

Earlier in the week, Swift released her new song, “You Need to Calm Down,” which is off her new album, “Lover.” That album comes out on Aug. 23. A video for the single will be released sometime next week. The song contains lyrics that outwardly support GLAAD and the LGBTQ community.

This month, The Stonewall Inn is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the riots that broke out  following a police raid of the longtime gay venue, protests that sparked the gay liberation movement nationwide.
