‘Dear White People’ Season 3 Gets August Premiere Date (Video)

Announcement comes on Juneteenth

“Dear White People,” fans rejoice: The show’s upcoming third season finally has a release date. Netflix announced Wednesday that “Dear White People Vol. 3” will launch Friday, Aug. 2, just in time for the new school year.

Timed in celebration of Juneteenth — for those of you who don’t know, it’s the holiday commemorating both emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the former Confederacy, and the June 19, 1865 announcement that slavery was abolished in Texas — the news was accompanied by “Great Grits Debate,” an adorable video in which the cast of “Dear White People” debate the best way to eat Southern-style grits.

Based on creator Justin Simien’s 2014 satirical film of the same name, “Dear White People” stars Logan Browning, Brandon P. Bell, DeRon Horton, Antoinette Robertson, John Patrick Amedori, Ashley Blaine Featherson and Marque Richardson, with narration by Giancarlo Esposito.
