Paul Thomas Anderson Teases New Musical Short ‘Anima’ With Thom Yorke (Video)

New short film musical will premiere in Imax theaters on June 26 ahead of Netflix debut

Netflix on Thursday released a teaser trailer for a surprise new musical short from director Paul Thomas Anderson, “Anima,” starring Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke.

The film will debut in free showings at select Imax theaters on Wednesday, June 26, ahead of a launch on Netflix the following day. That’s also the date Yorke will release his third non-Radiohead album, also called “Anima,” with nine new songs — plus a bonus track, “Ladies and Gentlemen (Thank You for Coming),” that will only be available on the vinyl edition.

Anderson describes the film as a one-reeler, which the teaser helpfully defines as “a motion picture, especially a cartoon or comedy, of 10-12 minutes duration and contained on one reel of film; popular especially in the era of silent films.”

The Oscar-nominated filmmaker, whose last feature was 2017’s “Phantom Thread,” is no stranger to music videos and has previously collaborated with Yorke and Radiohead as well as with artists such as Fiona Apple and Haim.

His feature credits include such acclaimed films as “Boogie Nights,” “Magnolia,” “There Will Be Blood” and “Inherent Vice.”
