Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul pulled a fast one on all of us.
The images that the “Breaking Bad” co-stars shared on social media the last few weeks that made the internet (and us) think that a “Breaking Bad” movie was imminent were a big diversion. Instead, the two actors have teamed up to craft an artisanal Mezcal, and those images reuniting the two were just a promotional launch of their new liquor brand: Dos Hombres.
It’s an incredible prank. That we believed the tease was about the actual “Breaking Bad” movie — you know, the one that reportedly follows Jesse Pinkman after the events of the AMC show and is being written and directed by Vince Gilligan — makes us embarrassed to have fallen for it.
But Dos Hombres, Cranston and Paul’s new liquor brand, does actually exist and doesn’t immediately appear to be part of some elaborate marketing scheme for the “Breaking Bad” movie (though it would make a great front for transporting meth). In fact, a bottle of the Espadin Mezcal is available now and retails for $58.
“We started traveling to Oaxaca to see if we could find it, and we mean it had to be ‘it,’ something so damn good even people who don’t think they like Mezcal will love it. It had to be perfect or we weren’t going to do it,” Cranston and Paul said in a post shared to Cranston’s Instagram. “We are crazy about the taste, the aroma, and the versatility of this smokey, age-old alcohol. Try it, and let us know what you think. We are certain you will love it.”
We’re sure the Mezcal is delicious, but we feel we’ve been had. We feel as if we’re now pathetically scraping a pizza off the roof of our house or are hopelessly chasing a fly around a warehouse as we await more news on a “Breaking Bad” movie. In the meantime, we’ll have to settle for a stiff drink.
