Marvel has set “The Eternals” for a November 6, 2020 release, the studio announced during its panel at San Diego Comic-Con Saturday.

To be directed by Chloe Zhao (“The Rider”) from a script by blacklist screenwriters Matthew and Ryan Firpo, “The Eternals” will focus on the race of ancient, superpowered humans created by Jack Kirby in 1976.

Onstage for the announcemment was Zhao, who was joined by stars Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden and Kumail Nanjiani, South Korean actor Ma Dong-seok, who will make his American film debut, along with Lia McHugh, Lauren Ridloff, and Brian Tyree Henry.

In the comics, The Eternals are a race of ancient humans with fantastic powers and very long lives. Among their ranks are beings who would later be worshipped as gods or regarded as legendary heroes. Details about the film version were sparse, but we learned a couple of interesting details during the panel. Madden will play Ikaris, whose adventures over his 20,000-year life included inspiring the Greek myth of Icarus.

Meanwhile, Lee will play Gilgamesh — which almost certainly means he’s playing The Forgotten One, one of the most ancient of the Eternals who has been mistaken for numerous heroes over the centuries, including Gilgamesh, and Hercules (who is also a Marvel character and one-time member of the Avengers).

Meanwhile, Nanjiani joked that his appearance onstage for the presentation was the first time he was able to get into Hall H. We feel you.
