The fields for the second Democratic debates are set. Twenty candidates have qualified for the event, which will be broadcast live from Detroit. Given the size of the field, the debates will be split across two nights.
Ten presidential candidates will debate on Tuesday, July 30. The remaining ten will debate on Wednesday, July 31. CNN will air both debates at 8 p.m. ET.
CNN held three separate draws on Thursday night, ensuring candidates with similar levels of support in qualifying polls were spread out across both nights. The first debates, held in Miami, were criticized as uneven, with four of the top five candidates (Biden, Buttigieg, Harris, Sanders) sharing the stage on the second night.
The fields are similar to those from the first debate, with one replacement. Rep. Eric Swalwell exited the race after the first debate. He will be replaced in the second debates by Montana Gov. Steve Bullock. Below are the fields, with podium order, for each debate.
