AMC has renewed “Fear the Walking Dead” for a sixth season. The announcement was made during the show’s Comic-Con panel on Friday.

The future of “The Walking Dead” franchise has been in question since earlier this month Robert Kirkman abruptly ended the comic, which has been the source material for the series. AMC promised that the franchise would continue. “This extraordinary comic created a world that already lives in multiple forms, and in the hearts and minds of millions of fans around the world, and will for many years to come,” a spokesperson said in a statement.

Along with “Fear” and the flagship “Walking Dead,” which returns for Season 10 later this year, AMC will add a third series set in the “Walking Dead” universe.

The third series, which will shoot in Virginia, will feature two young female protagonists and focus on the first generation to come-of-age in the apocalypse as we know it, according to AMC. Alexa Mansour, Nicolas Cantu and Hal Cumpston will star, with the second female lead yet to be cast.

Writer/producer Matt Negrete will serve as showrunner on the 10-episode series alongside chief content officer Scott M. Gimple.
