ABC added to its roster of comedy pilots Monday, ordering a comedy about immigrants from Jake Kasdan (“New Girl,” “Ben and Kate”) and another comedy about a blue-collar cop.

The Kasdan comedy, “Fresh Off the Boat” is based on the memoir of the same title by Eddie Huang. The single-camera comedy pilot, written by Nahnatchka Khan, is being executive produced by Kasdan for Popular Misconception with Melvin Mar.

Set in the ’90s, the plot centers on hip hop-loving Eddie. Growing up on suburban Orlando, Eddie’s being raised by an immigrant father who’s obsessed with all things American and an immigrant mother who’s often bewildered by white culture. The family of fresh-off-the-boat Taiwanese Americans try to live the American dream while still maintaining their cultural identity and sense of family.

The other comedy, “Saint Francis,” is centered on a blue-color, no-nonsense Long Island cop and family man who butts heads with the modern liberal world when his 29-year-old sister gets pregnant out of wedlock.

The multi-camera comedy is being written by Chris Moynihan with Tagline and through ABC Studios. Ron West and Kelly Kulchak are executive producing.
