ABC’s ‘Rising Star’ Judges Explain Why This Singing Competition Will Be Different (Video)

The show is attempting to “change the game” for singing competitions

On Sunday, June 22, ABC will premiere their new singing competition show, complete with a panel of celebrity judges and audience voting. (Sound familiar?)

But, wait… The latest trailer for ABC’s “Rising Star” explains how the show plans to separate itself from the pack: Performances, voting and eliminations will all take place on the same night, airing in real time.

“I’m talking about instant gratification,” judge Ludacris said in the trailer.

Using the show’s App, viewers will vote “yes” or “no” while the contestants perform in front of a wall. If a contestant receives enough votes by the end of their performance, they will advance in the competition and the wall will rise to unveil the audience and panel of judges, comprised of rapper Ludacris, pop singer Kesha and country singer Brad Paisley.

The judges will provide commentary, but a contestant’s fate is left entirely up to the viewers at home. The show will be hosted by singer Josh Groban.

“Rising Star” begins Sunday, June 22 at 9/8c on ABC.
