Aereo Expanding to Baltimore Dec. 16

Streaming TV company won’t let lawsuits stop expansion

Aereo, the lawsuit-plagued streaming service that lets viewers watch broadcast shows online, is expanding to the Baltimore market Dec. 16.

The service is already available in New York City, Boston, Atlanta, Salt Lake City, Miami, Dallas, Houston, Detroit, and Denver, and plans to expand to several other cities in the near future.

Broadcasters have repeatedly sued Aereo, saying it is stealing and rebroadcasting their signals. The company contends that it is only harnessing completely legal antennae, and streaming the signal to subscribers’ computers and other devices.

In October, the broadcast networks asked the Supreme Court to consider their claims against Aereo, hoping to shut down the service nationwide.
