Alchemy Hires Former Viacom EVP Scott Guthrie as COO

Company also hires Norbert Hudak to serve as senior vice president of affinity pods and business development

Alchemy has hired Scott Guthrie as its chief operating officer, the company announced Wednesday.

Guthrie will oversee several of Alchemy’s divisions including strategy & planning, operations, IT, and human resources. He will report to Alchemy CEO Bill Lee.

Alchemy’s Jim Jenkins has transitioned to the role of executive vice president of strategic business development and mergers and acquisitions. The company has also hired Norbert Hudak to serve as senior vice president of affinity pods and business development through which he will develop, acquire and maximize Alchemy’s action, horror, faith, family, urban and documentary slates.

Guthrie has held senior positions with several global entertainment and consumer product companies, including serving as EVP of Paramount Pictures Home Entertainment where he was responsible for the sales and marketing for leading home entertainment brands such as Paramount, Dreamworks, MTV, Nickelodeon, CBS and Showtime.

During his tenure with Viacom, Guthrie also served as EVP and general manager of MTV Games where he oversaw the global development of the popular Rockband franchise. Prior to that, he was EVP of publishing at THQ a leading developer and publisher of video-game software.

Guthrie spent a decade with The Walt Disney Company where he led the North American sales and distribution functions for the home entertainment division. He most recently served as COO of Kizzang Sweepstakes, an online gaming platform and president of SodaStream where he oversaw the Americas business units for the world’s leading home carbonation manufacturer. Guthrie began his career in Canada with sales and marketing roles first with Colgate-Palmolive and later PepsiCo.

Hudak comes to Alchemy after holding the title of SVP of marketing and brand management at Cinedigm Corp, where, as part of the executive team, he was responsible for studio relationships, brand and retail marketing, creative services and theatrical distribution.

Throughout his career he has overseen relationships with, and developed strategies for major entertainment brands such as The Weinstein Co, Shout! Factory, NFL, WWE, National Geographic, Discovery, Scholastic, Jim Henson Company, Classic Media, Sesame Workshop, Codeblack Entertainment, PureFlix, and Televisa.

Prior to Cinedigm, Hudak held similar positions at Gaiam Vivendi, Vivendi Entertainment, and Genius Products. Hudak started his entertainment career at Warner Bros Home Entertainment, where he launched the Sports Entertainment Division.
