Alex Ross Perry will write and direct the film adaptation of Stephen King’s “Rest Stop” for Legendary, the distributor announced on Thursday.

Craig Flores will produce through his Bread & Circuses banner, while Alex Garcia and Ali Mendes will oversee for Legendary.

King’s short story was first published in Esquire Magazine in 2003 and was later included in King’s 2008 collection titled “Just After Sunset.” “Rest Stop” won the National Magazine Award for Fiction in 2004. The film is being described as a “propulsive cat and mouse thriller that follows the twisted journey of two women after a fateful encounter at a highway rest stop.”

Perry’s most recent film, “Her Smell,” premiered at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival and opened in theaters on April 12. It stars Elisabeth Moss, Cara Delevingne and Dan Stevens. His other credits include “The Color Wheel,” “Listen Up Philip” and “Queen of the Earth.” He also wrote Disney’s “Christopher Robin.”

Perry is represented by WME, Mosaic, and Sloane, Offer, Weber and Dern.

The film adaptation of King’s “Pet Sematary” book was most recently released, and we will next see “It: Chapter Two” and “Doctor Sleep” from King’s archive. King is represented by Paradigm and Gang, Tyre.
