‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Spins $50M in Overseas Box-Office Bow

"Amazing Spider-Man" bows to $13M in Korea, $11M in Japan and a record-setting $6M in India. Sony focuses on Asia with Europe in midst of soccer championships.

"The Amazing Spider-Man" has begun spinning its box-office web, taking in $50.2 million from 13 overseas markets in its first weekend of release.

Sony focused the rollout mainly on Asia with Europe in the midst of its soccer championships.

Korea led the way, bringing in $13.4 million on 1,213 screens, a 71% market share. Japan produced $11.4 million from 1,092 screens, pulling in an estimated 84% of the country’s  Saturday-Sunday box office.

"The Amazing Spider-man" grossed $6 million from 1,236 screens in India, the biggest opening ever for a Hollywood film there and 74% bigger than 'Spider-Man 3."

The fourth film in the franchise opens with midnight screenings Monday night in the U.S. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone star in the reboot, directed by Marc Webb.
