Mike Benson has been named head of brand marketing and creative development for Amazon Digital Video, the company announced Monday.
Benson will report to Michael Paull, vice president of Amazon Digital Video, and will be responsible for overseeing marketing and advertising for Amazon’s original television series.
The online retailer has been making a strong push into original content in recent years, buoyed by the success of shows like “Transparent,” which centers around a man who reveals to his family that he is transgender, recently won the Golden Globe for Best Comedy Series. The show’s star Jeffrey Tambor also took home the Golden Globe award for Best Performance in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical.
Benson was most recently the chief creative officer at Time Warner Global Media Group and previously served as EVP of marketing at Disney ABC Television Group. While at Disney, Benson helped develop the company’s global, digital, multi-platform, gaming and multi-level consumer engagement activities.
He oversaw all marketing, advertising and promotional activities for ABC Primetime, Late Night and ABC Studios programming and was responsible for the launch and marketing of some of the network’s biggest shows, including “Modern Family,” “Lost,” “Desperate Housewives,” Dancing with the Stars,” “The Bachelor” and “Grey’s Anatomy.”
He was the recipient of ABC’s first Emmy Award for the marketing of “Lost.”
