Animal Planet’s straying pretty far from the Puppy Bowl with its latest project.
The critter-centric network is developing “The Other Dead,” an adaptation of the IDW Publishing graphic novel about zombie animals.

“The Other Dead” novel, which was created by Joshua Ortega and Digger Mesch, is set in Louisiana during the next Hurricane Katrina and features an eclectic cast of characters thrown together into a nightmarish world of undead animals and unrelenting storms.
The scripted series is being targeted for a premiere in the first quarter of 2016.
“The entire creative team could not be more excited about this partnership, and the timing for ‘The Other Dead’ series could not be more perfect,” Ortega said of the project. “Zombie animal meets Animal Planet? Sounds like we have some serious undead fun ahead of us.”
Kurt Tondorf, vice president of development at Animal Planet, said the network is “rabid” (literally?) about the project.
