Anna Kendrick Circling Universal’s ‘Pitch Perfect’

An Oscar nominee for “Up in the Air,” she’d play a college student in the ‘Glee’-esque musical

Anna Kendrick, who received an Academy Award nomination for her role opposite George Clooney in "Up in the Air," is in talks to play the lead in Universal and Gold Circle's upcoming musical "Pitch Perfect," TheWrap has confirmed.

If the negotiations work out, she'll play a college student.

"Pitch Perfect" is described as a 'Glee'-esque project set in the world of college a cappella singing competitions.

Kendrick would give it a lift.

When she was only 12, the Portland, Maine-native was nominated for a Tony Award for her performance as Dinah in "High Society."

We'll be seeing plenty of Kendrick in the next few years. Summit is releasing her comedy "50/50" Sept. 30, and she stars as Jessica Stanley in Summit's "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1," which comes out Nov. 18.

After that, she's got Lionsgate's "Rapturepalooza," which doesn't have a release date, Crave Film's drama "End of Watch," opposite Jake Gyllenhaal, Lionsgate's ensemble romantic comedy "What to Expect When You're Expecting" and, finally, "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2," set for a Nov. 16, 2012 release.

Jason Moore is directing "Pitch Perfect." Kay Cannon, co-producer, story editor and writer of NBC's "30 Rock," wrote the screenplay adaptation based on Mickey Rapkin's book.

Actress Elizabeth Banks, Gold Circle Films president and CEO Paul Brooks and Brownstone Productions' Max Handelman are producing.
