Anne Hathaway is set to star in “O2,” a sci-fi thriller, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

IM Global is closing a deal to finance the film that will begin shooting this fall.

Christie LeBlanc wrote the script for “O2,” in which Hathaway will play a woman who wakes up inside a cryogenic chamber with no knowledge of how she got there. She has to escape the chamber before the air runs out.

The Oscar winner will produce alongside her manager Suzan Bymel and Echo Lake’s Adam Riback and James Engle. IM Global’s Stuart Ford and Greg Shapiro will also be producers.

The team is currently searching for a director. CAA is representing the domestic rights.

Hathaway has starred in previous sci-fi thrillers — her last credit was “Colossal,” alongside Jason Sudeikis and Austin Stowell. She also starred Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar.” Her other most recent credits include “Alice Through the Looking Glass” and “The Intern.” She is currently working on “The Shower,” focusing on aliens invading earth, and “Ocean’s Eight.”

Hathaway is represented by CAA, Management 360 and Slate PR.

IM Global’s SVP Acquisitions and CO-Productions John Zois has been negotiating the deal on behalf of IM Global. Deadline first reported the news.
