With iMacs, iPods, iPads and iPhones already in distribution, how does iTV sound?
As the media mines Walter Isaacson’s Steve Jobs biography for every nugget it can find, some analysts have concluded Apple may have its own television set ready by late 2012.
In Isaacson’s biography, out in stores Monday, Jobs says he’d “like to create an integrated television set that is completely easy to use.” The “integrated” TV would be synced with other Apple devices, as well as the recently launched iCloud storage system.
Isaacson elaborated: “He very much wanted to do for television sets what he had done for computers, music players, and phones: make them simple and elegant.”
The biographer appeared on CBS' "60 Minutes" Sunday to discuss everything from Jobs' early life to his ultimately unsuccessful battle with pancreatic cancer. Video of that interview can be seen here:
As every aspect of Jobs' personal and professional life is analyzed, the prospect of an Apple TV really has the tech world buzzing.
Pipper Jiffray analyst Walter Munster has said he believes Apple is already buying the parts to build prototypes for such a television. Based on meetings in Asia during January, other meetings throughout the year and some of Apple’s patent filings, Munster has concluded Apple TVs may be ready as soon as late 2012 or early 2013.
Meanwhile, Ticonderoga Securities analyst Brian White claims his firm was the first to uncover evidence that Apple has a TV in the works. He wrote back in June that Apple would enhance the TV experience and secure a substantial new revenue stream.
“For Apple, we believe the Smart TV market represents a significant new revenue opportunity for the company, while bringing Apple into a consumer’s living room and providing the digital hub in a home,” White wrote.
Given how much hype surrounds the launch of any Apple product, can you imagine the insanity of an Apple TV demonstration?
