Arianna Huffington blames Donald Trump’s antics, such as outbursts of anger and feelings of paranoia, on sleep deprivation.
“Donald Trump is Exhibit A of chronic sleep deprivation,” said the founder of the Huffington Post during a Grill Chat on Thursday with TheWrap CEO and editor-in-chief Sharon Waxman. “We can’t fix him, but he could theoretically fix himself — but I think it’s probably too late.”
Huffington went on to describe the common symptoms of sleep deprivation: “The inability to process basic information, mood swings, outbursts of anger, paranoid tendencies, regurgitation of incomprehensible problems.”
“Here is my one good thing about Donald Trump,” she added. “In future generations, parents are going to point to him as a historic example of what happens to you if you don’t get enough of sleep. And children will be so terrified they will go to bed quickly.”
Huffington is currently promoting her new book “The Sleep Revolution,” which discusses how a lack of adequate sleep can seriously impair a person’s ability to function properly. Huffington was once so sleep deprived that she blacked out at her desk, toppled over and broke her cheekbone. That was when she started reevaluating her life.
“Like a lot of macho men, he [Trump] brags that he only sleeps for four hours, and as he says [that] he tweets during the night, and he often re-tweets Mussolini,” Huffington said.
Huffington was featured in the first of TheWrap’s live video podcasts, called the GrillChats, which can be seen on TheWrap’s Facebook page.
