Greta Van Susteren is exiting Fox News after 14 years, the cable news network announced Tuesday.

Brit Hume will takeover for Van Susteren to anchor “On the Record” starting on Tuesday, and will continue on a regular basis through the presidential election.

“We are grateful for Greta’s many contributions over the years and wish her continued success,” Fox News co-presidents Jack Abernethy and Bill Shine said in a joint statement.

Howard Kurtz, Fox News’ in-house media reporter, noted that Van Susteren wanted to renegotiate her contract after former chairman and CEO Roger Ailes stepped down and had a clause that allowed her to leave if Ailes departed.

Megyn Kelly ended her 12 year run with Fox news in exchange for a weekday show at NBC. She turned down a four-year, $100 million offer to stay with Fox News saying that one of the reasons for her departure was to spend more time with her kids.

“Happening Now” anchor Jenna Lee announced that she was leaving the Fox News after working there for 10 years. Lee said she still loves being a journalist and that she has “some really big ideas on how to better serve you in that particular arena” without Fox News.

The standup comic says his surprise win for supporting comic actor last year has boosted FX’s offbeat comedy “Baskets,” where he plays Christine Baskets, the self-obsessed mother to two grown twins struggling with life failures (both played by Zach Galifianakis).

“I’m very demanding now,” Anderson joked to reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena on Thursday. “I want everything my way.”

More seriously, Anderson added: “I feel wonderful about the award for two reasons,” he said.

“One, it makes people watch ‘Baskets.’ Two, my mom. It was her award,” he said. “I stole every nuance, glance, purse of the lips, all those little tics, nicks; all those tic-tac, knick-knacks that my mom used to have. All her butter.”

Butter? Oh, yes.

“I was buttered as a baby,” Anderson said. “A lot of you were powdered, I was buttered. I got passed around a lot because they couldn’t hold on to me.” This brought a smile to the face of Galifianakis, who was appearing via satellite for the session with reporters.

The season 2 return of “Baskets” this year has all the cast members working hard, Anderson added. “I work less hard,” he said, “because I’m a whiner.”

Landgraf came to the Television Critics Association press tour on Thursday to talk about the continuation of the “peak TV” trend he helped identify and also explain some lengthy hiatuses for shows such as the Golden Globe-winning “Atlanta,” which was a sensation in its freshman year last fall but won’t return for season 2 until 2018.

“There’s an old saw in contracting: ‘Do you want it now or do you want it good?’,” Landgraf told reporters. That said, he added: “We wish we had ‘Atlanta’ in 2017.”

Fans are also going to get the two promised additional installments of the miniseries “American Crime Story,” which broke through to massive acclaim with its first effort, “The People v. O.J. Simpson.” One will examine the murder of designer Gianni Versace, another will look at crime after Hurricane Katrina. The Versace project will be shot first, Landgraf said, admitting that the production pace for both has been moving slower than expected.

“It’s taken us time to get the material together,” he said.

Meanwhile, Landgraf was asked about the news breaking Thursday that Apple is going to invest heavily in new TV production.

“We welcome them as competitors,” he said. But Landgraf added that he may have been short-sighted about the turnaround of “peak TV,” the programming gold rush that has led cable and streaming networks to ramp up production. He had earlier predicted that the trend would peak in 2017.

“I was wrong,” Landgraf said, who added that he was pushing back his prediction of a turnaround to 2018.

Landgraf paid special tribute to “AHS” writer-producer Ryan Murphy, who has become one of FX’s most important collaborators (he’s also behind “Feud,” the Joan Crawford-Bette Davis drama starring Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon). Murphy was a former “enfant terrible” turned major player, Landgraf said.

“The breadth and depth of his artistry has grown over time,” he added.

As for “AHS,” FX knows details of the upcoming seventh season but renewed for two more seasons sight unseeen.

“We’re extending it out of trust and good will,” Landgraf said.

The boss of the Fox Television Group, which produces fare ranging from “This Is Us” to “The Simpsons,” predicts that pitch meetings are about to get Trump-y, now that the volatile real estate mogul is about to move into the Oval Office and is dominating headlines with virtually every tweet.

“I’m sure we will,” Gary Newman, co-chairman and CEO of Fox Television Group, said in an interview Wednesday with TheWrap at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, when asked if he expects a wave of Trump-inspired scripts.

He added that most TV writers had already finished working up their pilot ideas for the current development season before the November election. But, “I’m sure next year, we’re gonna get pitches that will have Trump-like characters at the heart of shows, and we’ll certainly listen,” Newman said.

“Probably among the community of writers working in Hollywood, few would have believed right up until the day of the election that this was the direction it was going to go,” he added.

But the election won’t change the fundamental need for Fox – and other broadcasters – to find hits. That means shows that appeal to many millions of people, regardless of political affiliation.

“We have talked a lot over the years about how we can’t be programming to ourselves, we can’t program within the bubble of Los Angeles and maybe the bubble of New York,” he said.  “That there’s a big, broad country between the two coasts, and we have to be mindful of their interests and sensibility.”

Fox is controlled by News Corp. billionaire Rupert Murdoch, a Trump supporter, who last year took the reins at Fox News Channel following the ouster of Roger Ailes, who had been accused of sexual harassment by numerous women.

But Newman said neither Murdoch nor any other senior executive has issued any edicts that programming should be Trump-friendly.

“We do not get those sorts of messages from our company,” he said. “Fox News is a very separate sort of entity, and we don’t receive any pressure from our management about doing shows that are appealing to certain groups or anything. And honestly, my personal political feelings are not that relevant to the programs we’re selecting …. We’re trying to appeal to a broad audience.”

'Empire' Renewed by Fox for Season 4

As for some of the recent dramas on the Fox network itself, such as “Pitch” and “The Exorcist” – well, stay tuned.

“This Is Us” just logged another series ratings record this week for NBC, but Fox is clearly struggling with some of its own network dramas, including “Pitch” with newcomer Kylie Bunbury as a female Major League Baseball star.

“We would have loved to have seen a bigger audience,” Newman, Chairman and CEO of the Fox Television Group, told reporters Wednesday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, referring to “Pitch.” Fox aired 10 episodes earlier this season but has yet to make a decision about renewal.

“We liked that the show was about something, it was very specific,” Newman added.  “I don’t think the [ratings] performance level allowed us to make an early decision about it.” The question, he added, is “do we have a place on our schedule where we can grow it?” As the network ponders its fall schedule announcement in May, Newman said, executives will consider the case for “Pitch.”

The same purgatory awaits “The Exorcist,” a TV version of the horror movie franchise starring Geena Davis, which has delivered so-so numbers.

“Both shows, we can’t make decisions on yet,” Fox Entertainment President David Madden told reporters.

As for “This Is Us,” Newman said Fox executives had weighed keeping the show on their network, but ultimately believed that it was a better fit for NBC, which had scored success with similarly toned family dramas such as “Parenthood” and “Friday Night Lights.” Of course, Fox’s studio will enjoy returns on the library value of the series for years to come.

The lesson of the show’s success, he added, was to “let your writers tell a personal story.”

Madden also said that Fox continued to pursue live theatrical events, even though the network saw mediocre results from its recent adaptation of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” this season.

“We had hoped to be sitting here announcing our next live theatrical event,” Madden said, although the deal could not come together in time. “We believe live theatrical is a big part of television.”

The actress says that her decision to move from an acclaimed turn as Deputy Molly Solverson on “Fargo” to the lovelorn dog owner Nan in ABC’s upcoming comedy “Downward Dog” was all part of her desire to move on in her career.

“The first wave of things [after ‘Fargo’] was me deciding that I wanted to be a leading lady,” Tolman told reporters at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, California, on Tuesday. “I wanted to wait and find my show.

“We kind of went through a lot of shows like that: Play in the ensemble or [play] the best friend,” she added. “Really good projects and good offers, but I ultimately just felt like I wanted to hold out and … be part of something that was my baby.”

While “Downward Dog” — in which an anxiety-prone canine (voiced by co-creator Samm Hodges) tells of his relationship with his romantically challenged owner — might seem a stretch, Tolman sees the connection.

“‘Fargo’ was a really dramatic show that was funny,” she said. “Our show is a funny show that’s dramatic … It’s like this little indie movie.”

Whether it will connect with viewers is another story. ABC released premiere dates Tuesday for many of its midseason shows, but left “Downward Dog” off the list. Network executives said they will wait til summer to premiere the show, a step that usually signals limited faith in a project.

Elfman is the star of ABC’s new comedy “Imaginary Mary,” a new comedy about a mom whose childhood imaginary pal (a CGI concoction voiced by former “SNL” star Rachel Dratch) now follows her around in midlife. Elfman, who rose to stardom on “Dharma and Greg,” found the acting more challenging than she did for the 2003 live-action/animated feature “Looney Tunes: Back in Action.”

“When we were filming ‘Looney Tunes,’ we had men in green suits, green screens, green little balls on sticks, a lot of like, ‘in the real world’ green-screen elements,” Elfman told reporters Tuesday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena. “For this, because it’s CGI, it’s a whole different approach to animation; we had rehearsal with a stunt, life-size puppet; we had an amazing puppeteer. We would rehearse with her. We had an actress, a comedic actress, on set to do all the lines, so I felt like I had a comedic partner because Rachel was in New York.”

After the rehearsals, though, the puppet would be taken away. Leaving Elfman alone with her acting chops.

“There would be nothing,” Elfman said. “I didn’t even have a green ball. I had nothing. …. An empty chair, then she’d be walking across the room… Oftentimes, I’d have seven different eye lines.

“It was actually a really great challenge comedically,” she added.

That might not be the only challenge for this show. ABC ordered “Imaginary Mary” last spring but in September cut the episode order from 13 to nine, following a harsh online reaction to an early trailer.

“Imaginary Mary” will get a sneak preview airing at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday March 29, then move to its regular time slot of Tuesdays at 9:30 on April 4.

Sure enough, more than 26 million total viewers tuned in on various ESPN streaming and TV platforms, the network has reported. That includes ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU.

But – wait, what? – that was actually down 3 percent compared with last year’s championship game between the same two teams (26.7 million).

What can we say? Ratings are funny things. But it should be pointed out that last year’s Clemson-Bama game was also a heart-pounder. That one was decided with a 24-yard touchdown pass in the final 12 seconds, with Alabama winning 45-40.

When it comes to entertainment value, these teams deliver.

Overall, the three-game College Football Playoff delivered a live-audience average of 22.2 million total viewers, up 9 percent compared with last year.

Looking just at ESPN on TV, the Clemson and Alabama face-off logged 24.4 million total viewers, making it the No. 8 cable telecast of all time in total viewers.

Monday’s game, impressive as it was, was far behind the No. 1 cable record held by the Oregon-Ohio State championship, which drew 33.4 million total viewers.

ESPN Host Rails Against 'Jerks on Social Media' During Tirade About Clemson Fans (Video)

“This word ‘expect’ is a magical thing,” the mysterious writer-director behind “Blue Velvet,” “Mulholland Drive” and other films told reporters at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, California, when asked about the new version of his fabled murder mystery “Twin Peaks” that will premiere on Showtime May 21. “People expect things and hopefully their expectations are met when they see the thing.”

Showtime decided to bring Lynch out alone to answer questions for 15 minutes, before a panel featuring “Twin Peaks” stars Kyle MacLachlan, Laura Dern, Madchen Amick, Robert Forster and Kimmy Robertson. But for all his air of good-humored inscrutability, the oracular Lynch did confirm a few points. He has directed all 18 hours of the new series, and that material will be packaged as 18 episodes, he said.

When asked why, despite an enormous cast, some original actors did not return, including Michael Ontkean and Lara Flynn Boyle, Lynch did not offer specifics but indicated that he and those cast members more or less came to a mutual agreement about the project going forward without them. “It’s a little bit of both,” he replied when asked whether it was he or the actors who came to the decision.

And Lynch reiterated what he has said in the past, that he never wanted to reveal the killer of Laura Palmer, the homecoming queen whose murder set in motion the plot for the original “Twin Peaks.” (Executives at ABC, which aired the original series, had other ideas about tying up loose ends.) But the Palmer mystery remains at the heart of the new series.

“The story of Laura Palmer’s last seven days is very much important to this,” Lynch said of the new show.

The genesis of the revival came about after his longtime collaborator, writer Mark Frost, sent Lynch a note proposing a return to “Twin Peaks.” The pair met at the Hollywood restaurant Musso & Frank to discuss the project. More recently, they worked together on Skype (Lynch lives in Hollywood and Frost lives in Ojai, about an hour’s drive away).

But on many other points, Lynch had little to nothing to say, although he remained unfailingly gracious in batting aside queries.

Asked about a much-publicized rift with Showtime, which led him to briefly announce he was leaving the series, Lynch politely said: “I would rather not discuss that.” But he added that he was now “very happy being at Showtime.”

When asked about how much TV had changed since the original “Twin Peaks” went off the air in 1991, he again demurred: “I don’t really think about those things.”

And when a reporter wondered if Lynch had thought about the appetite for a “Twin Peaks” revival or was too “in the middle” of that fictional world to consider it, the director replied: “I’m too in the middle – and I don’t go out much.”

When MacLachan, who has worked with Lynch since “Dune,” finally walked out onstage a few minutes later for his own panel, a reporter could not help wondering whether the director was just as maddeningly hard-to-parse on the set.

“You guys got a lot,” MacLachlan deadpanned. “You did really, really well. He must really like you.”

“Twin Peaks” will premiere on Showtime on May 21 at 9 p.m.

The premium cable network is bringing back David Lynch‘s fabled murder mystery of the early 1990s in a new version shrouded in secrecy but featuring an enormous cast, including star Kyle MacLachlan and many other original actors.

“I think the ‘Twin Peaks’ you’re going to see is the pure heroin of David Lynch and I’m very excited to be putting that out,” David Nevins, president and CEO of Showtime Networks Inc., told reporters Monday at the Television Critics Assn. press tour in Pasadena. Nevins revealed the show will premiere May 21.

However, Nevins found himself unable to offer any meaningful details about what viewers can expect – probably a necessary caution, given Lynch’s ironclad demands for secrecy surrounding the project and his past tangles with the network over creative control and budgeting.

Nevins and Showtime programming chief Gary Levine did reveal that they had seen the entire show, and that the writer-director had served them doughnuts before each screening (an appropriate treat, which makes reference to the original series).

But that was about all there was in the department of hints.

“It rewards close watching,” Nevins finally offered. “Twin Peaks” “was the original social media show, the original ‘discussion show’ before the tools of social media and fan engagement existed.

“That’s why David is so particular about secrecy,” Nevins added.

Whether the new version will prove as memorable as the original remains to be seen.

“I have no idea what to expect in terms of ratings,” Nevins said. “It almost sort of doesn’t matter – you need to have these special, [one-time-only] events.”

'Twin Peaks' Is 'Going to Be Unconventional,' Showtime CEO Says, As Early Footage Rolls In

“Training Day,” premiering Feb. 2, is a series adaptation of the 2001 crime thriller starring Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke about two cops battling gang violence in Los Angeles. But it’s hardly the only famous movie the new show will name-check, both overtly and more slyly.

“We have another episode that is called ‘Sunset Boulevard,’ that is a total homage,” he added, referring to the 1950 Billy Wilder classic about a faded silent movie star and the hack screenwriter who becomes enmeshed in her world.

“It opens with me floating in the pool, for God’s sakes!” Paxton exclaimed. “Sunset Boulevard” famously began with a shot of screenwriter Joe Gillis (William Holden), face-down and dead in a swimming pool.

Paxton, of course, has a lengthy list of movie credits to his own name, including memorable roles in “The Terminator,” “Aliens,” “Apollo 13” and more. “Training Day” will be his first starring TV series role since HBO’s “Big Love.”

“I should be doing TCM — that’s the next thing after this,” Paxton joked.

The late Kane is known the world over as the creator of Batman, one of the most successful franchises in entertainment history. The superhero first appeared in DC Comics in 1939 and has since spawned TV series, movies and an endless stream of merchandise.

But according to “Batman & Bill,” the documentary premiering on Hulu in May, Kane hardly deserved the sole credit he routinely receives in taglines. The silent partner in the creation was Bill Finger, a writer in Kane’s studio who devised many of the most familiar elements of the Batman story, from his sidekick Robin to his trademark cowl mask.

Marc Tyler Nobleman, a comics expert whose book “Bill the Boy Wonder” inspired the documentary from filmmakers Don Argott and Sheena M. Joyce, explains why Kane overshadowed Finger for decades.

“A lot of it has to do with the times,” Nobleman told reporters at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour in Pasadena on Saturday. “This was a different era where often comic strips and sometimes comic books were created by a team and one person got the credit, the person who started what we call the shop, the studio.

“Bob Kane, at the beginning, was more dominant in a business sense,” he added. “Bill was desperate to create; he was getting a chance to write for a living. Half the country was out of work, period …. So I think he was a little bit more willing to compromise in ways that we, now, look at as unacceptable.”

“We still don’t know exactly what he did,” Nobleman added. “Whatever he did, it didn’t pay off for him, because he died with nothing.” Finger died in 1974; Kane, who conceded that Finger never received the proper recognition for his work, died in 1998.

Recent years have brought some vindication. DC Comics in 2015 cut a deal with the Finger family that gave Bill Finger credits on future “Batman” films and the TV series “Gotham.”

Nobleman says that the Hulu doc is not the end of his quest to restore a rightful place in history to Finger. “There’s still Batman fans out there who do not know, so whenever I can talk about it, I will,” he said.

“I think you can sustain a relationship at a certain volume, so to speak, for a long time just by texting,” the costar of Hulu’s romantic comedy “Casual” told reporters Saturday at the Television Critics Association (TCA) Winter Press Tour in Pasadena.

“You can be like, ‘Hey, love to see you soon,’ for like two years,” Dewey, formerly of “The Mindy Project” and CW’s “The Mountain,” added. “And it’s still quasi-romantic. Whereas prior to texting, you had to pick up the phone and have a real human conversation, which is gonna go one way or the other much quicker. So you can kind of keep someone parked at 6 ad infinitum.”

A pause, then Dewey asked the crowd in the ballroom: “Anyone excited to date me?”

Michaela Watkins, who stars in “Casual” as struggling divorcee Valerie, agreed that technology has made relationships “cold, chilly and disaffected.”

“This show is very relevant … in that way,” the 45 year-old former “SNL” star added. “Anybody who’s gone to CES in Vegas this week, it’s very chilly and technical and cold,” adding that the characters in “Casual” are “trying to understand what intimacy is.”

Nyasha Hatendi, who plays Leon on the show, chimed in to agree.

This brought an objection from 23-year-old Tara Lynne Barr, who plays Watkins’ daughter Laura on the show. “Can I just defend my generation here?” she said, to laughter from the crowd. With texting and social media, “it’s cool to be deliberate when you connect with another person.”

“Casual” will be headed into its third season in May on Hulu.

Hulu is about to get more “Black-ish.”

The streaming service announced Saturday a new licensing agreement that will give it exclusive subscription video-on-demand rights to the hit ABC comedy.

“Black-ish” has already been streaming recent episodes the day after they air for Hulu subscribers, but now the entire series will be available on the platform.

Now in its third season, “Black-ish,” a family comedy starring Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross, returned for its midseason premiere this week. The show was nominated this year for the first time at the Golden Globes in the Best Comedy or Musical Series category. Winners will be announced at the Globe ceremony on Sunday.

Hulu and ABC parent Walt Disney Co. have been doing a lot of business lately. Last month, the streaming provider wrapped up its first licensing agreement with the Walt Disney Studios for theatrical features. Hulu also grabbed a deal for kids’ shows from Disney networks. Disney owns 30 percent of Hulu, which is run as a joint venture that also includes stakes for Fox, Comcast and Time Warner.

Hulu offers current season content from five of the six U.S. broadcast networks. Earlier this week, the company announced that it will include CBS, as well as other networks, in a new streaming service to be rolled out later this year that will aim to compete with more expensive cable bundles. Hulu said that service will be priced at less than $40 per month.

Vaughn came to the Television Critics Asociation press tour in Pasadena on Thursday to pitch two of the talk shows he’s producing for DirecTV’s Audience Network: the third season of “Undeniable With Joe Buck” and the series premiere later this year of “Fearless With Tim Ferriss.”

Ferriss is the self-help guru and podcaster behind the best-selling “The 4-Hour Work Week.” Vaughn thinks he’s a natural as a TV talk host.

“I was just a fan of Tim’s and his podcast,” Vaughn told reporters. “He’s very bright and very informed …. I was learning so much from his podcasts and his books. I find these shows to be very inspiring. People who maybe have road blocks and realize other people have maybe achieved things can get some real strategies to overcome” their problems.

In a clip shown before the TCA panel, Ferriss was shown interviewing guests such as pro poker player Phil Hellmuth against a spare, blue-and-white set with a live audience.

“It allowed me to play a lot with audience interaction,” Ferriss said of the set-up, adding that he wanted the focus to be on his guests and the “visual assets we pull up.”

Meanwhile, the new season of “Undeniable” will have longtime sportscaster Buck interviewing some legendary athletes, including Pete Rose, whom Buck says is still gambling even after all his storied problems with betting. The trick to hosting, he said, is to reveal something new about every guest, even the most familiar ones.

“You think you know Tom Brady, because he’s Mr. Perfect with great hair,” Buck said. “Which pisses me off.”

The cable network yanked the upcoming docuseries about the Ku Klux Klan this month after network bosses said producers had paid participants in violation of the company’s standards. But church leaders — involved in a separate battle with A&E over an anti-Scientology series starring Leah Remini — aren’t buying that story, saying that because Remini and a producer were paid for their efforts on her show, A&E’s “KKK” explanation doesn’t make any sense.

“Escaping the KKK” would not normally attract attention from the church, but in this case it’s a useful tool for Scientology leaders looking to pressure a media enemy on the Remini show, which they feel is detrimental to their cause.

When TheWrap contacted the church for comment, a spokeswoman responded with a written statement that said A&E “needs to get its story straight.”

Spokeswoman Karin Pouw said that A&E has said both that cash payments to documentary participants violate company policy (in the case of “KKK”) and that it’s “common practice” (in the case of “Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath”).

“The Church and its leaders have received more than 100 hate postings, which includes at least 50 threats of death or violence, while acts of vandalism have been carried out on our Churches since the [Remini] show began airing,” Pouw wrote. “So A&E is turning a blind eye on religious hate while claiming to take ‘the subject of racism, hatred and violence very seriously'” in the case of the “KKK” show.

An A&E representative declined to comment. But a person close to the situation said that network executives made a distinction between payments going to members of a hate group, in the case of the Klan docuseries, and payments made to executive producers on a TV series, as in the case of Remini and her producer.

What seems clear, at this point, is that A&E hasn’t heard the last of “Escaping the KKK.”

Want to know more about Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher, the mother-daughter screen legends who died one day apart this week? HBO has a film for you.

The network is sticking to plans to telecast “Bright Lights,” a documentary about the relationship between Reynolds, star of the classic musical “Singin’ in the Rain,” and her daughter, known to millions as Princess Leia in the “Star Wars” franchise.

While a precise date hasn’t been announced, “Bright Lights” will probably land on the schedule sometime in early 2017, according to network insiders.

The film, directed by Fisher Stevens, already won praise at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, with TheWrap’s Steve Pond calling it “frank, funny and so revealing that it becomes uncomfortable at times.”

“In between the priceless and hugely entertaining glimpses of these lives … there’s a sadness to the movie, both in watching the woman who starred in and seemed to embody ‘The Unsinkable Molly Brown’ getting feebler, and in seeing Fisher’s ongoing struggles with manic depression,” Pond wrote.

Fisher, who had battled bipolar disorder and substance abuse problems for much of her life, suffered a heart attack last week while returning from London to Los Angeles. She never regained consciousness and died on Tuesday. Her mother died the following day, apparently after suffering a stroke while making funeral plans for her daughter.

Reynolds died at age 84 on Wednesday, just one day after the death of her daughter, “Star Wars” heroine Carrie Fisher. Just as they had 24 hours earlier for Fisher, celebrity tributes began flowing on Twitter — this time for the star of “Singin’ in the Rain.”

“Debbie Reynolds was one of the last of Hollywood royalty,” Shatner wrote. “It breaks my heart that she is gone. I’d hoped that my grieving was done for 2016.”

As news broke Tuesday of the death of “Star Wars” heroine Carrie Fisher, Cox tweeted that the star had inspired her to be more open about her own struggles with bipolar disorder.

“I’m pretty open about being in recovery; I’ve been more circumspect about mental illness,” wrote Cox, who writes for The New York Times and is a correspondent for MTV News.

Fisher was open about her struggles with substance abuse and mental illness, using them as material for her second career as a successful writer. In a newspaper column published just weeks before she died, Fisher wrote that people with bipolar disorder were “given a challenging illness, and there is no other option than to meet those challenges.”

Woody Allen, the famously neurotic “Manhattan” filmmaker, may not seem like a TV guy. But his comedy “Crisis in Six Scenes” premiered on Amazon – with costar Miley Cyrus.

Anthony Hopkins is the Oscar-winning eminence behind such prestige films as “The Remains of the Day” and “Silence of the Lambs.” But he came to TV as Robert Ford, the ominous creator of the creepy amusement park in HBO’s “Westworld.”

A huge star of 1990s cinema, Winona Ryder returned as the spooked mom in Netflix’s “Stranger Things.”

“X-Men” film star James Marsden got his start in TV shows like “Touched by an Angel.” He also turned up in “Westworld,” playing gunslinger Teddy Flood.

John Travolta is another movie star who started out on TV, on the ’70s sitcom hit “Welcome Back Kotter.” He returned to TV to play attorney Robert Shapiro in FX’s “The People v. O.J. Simpson.”

Elijah Wood played a hobbit in “The Lord of the Rings” film series, but in 2016 he costarred in the BBC America series “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency.”

Paul Giamatti specializes in twitchy, over-the-top characters in films such as “Sideways” and “Cinderella Man.” On Showtime’s “Billions,” he played a driven U.S. attorney battling white-collar criminals.

You know Luke Wilson mainly from movies like “The Royal Tenenbaums” and “Idiocracy.” It’s likely to stay that way, since his Showtime series “Roadies” didn’t find many fans.

Zach Galifianakis, star of “The Hangover” movie series, didn’t play it safe with his TV transfer. He played a rodeo clown on FX’s offbeat comedy series “Baskets.”

“24: Legacy”

“Star Trek: Discovery”

Despite losing Bryan Fuller as showrunner and its premiere date getting pushed back four months, Trekkies the world over are still salivating for this show. It not only marks the first new “Trek” series in over a decade, but also marks the first time the series will feature an openly gay character and focus on a woman of color who is not the captain of a Federation starship.

“Twin Peaks”

David Lynch and the entire cast of the much-beloved cult series have been working on this continuation for years now, and it is finally set to premiere–we hope–in 2017. Exactly when is still unknown, but one thing we do know for sure is that fans are going to be sitting down with hot slice of cherry pie the moment it premieres.

“Emerald City”

This ambitious NBC limited series is unique in several ways, not least of which is that it marks the television debut of director Tarsem Singh. After turning in impressive visual spectacles in the movies “Immortals,” “The Fall,” and “The Cell,” Tarsem is taking the Land of Oz to the small screen in the form of a network series that was filmed in multiple countries around the world.

“Iron Fist”

Every Marvel-Netflix series has proven to be a major success, and this one looks no different. “Game of Thrones” alum Finn Jones stars as Danny Rand, who returns to New York after years of secret martial arts training during which he was presumed dead. The series looks to be a martial arts spectacle that will serve as a perfect lead in for “The Defenders” crossover event series.

In the memoir “There’s No F*cking Secret: Letters From a Badass Bitch,” Osbourne writes all about the adventures of her private area, although she insists her motives are educational. “You have to read it,” she told TheWrap on Tuesday.

“I’m a woman,” Osbourne said, explaining her decision to include the vajayjay chapter.

“The book isn’t just a memoir,” she added. “They’re letters to the people, places, situations, circumstances, things I’ve been through, to make me who I am, so people stop asking me what my secret is, and hopefully with me going through what I went through in my life and sharing what I’ve learned can help other people. It’s ok to be different.”

Osbourne, a TV personality (formerly of E!’s “Fashion Police”) and the daughter of rocker Ozzy Osbourne and talk host Sharon, has indeed followed her own career path, although sometimes it’s been a rocky one. Last year she was engulfed in scandal after she made an insensitive remark about Latinos “cleaning your toilet” during a debate over Donald Trump’s immigration remarks on “The View.”

Needless to say, the book has a chapter on that incident too.

“That was a very important chapter for me,” Osbourne said. “I think it’s one of the best things I’ve ever written in my life, because it’s so honest and it’s my opinion and it needed to be addressed. It’s one of the most awful things that ever happened to me in my life. But because I fell back on sarcasm and got cut off, I managed to offend an entire culture and that is the last thing I was ever trying to do.

“But I learned a lot from it,” she added. “It did spark conversation and get people to understand what’s really going on” in the battle over immigration.

Asked if the uproar surprised her, she replied: “No, because if I’d seen it and I wasn’t me, I would have hated me too.”

Osbourne said that although writing the book was difficult (she’s dyslexic and had a co-writer), she’s glad for the experience.

“As hard as it was, it was also enlightening, because it made me realize how much I love and respect my family and how lucky I am to have the life I have,” she said. “It made me realize I’m stronger than I thought I was.”

Bannon, the Breitbart News boss who’s soon to be a top adviser in the Trump White House,  is a “raging anti-Semite” who has no business getting rich off a show based on “Jewish humor,” according to Peter Mehlman, one of “Seinfeld’s” best-known writer-producers.

He has made “all this money off a show that’s associated with Jewish humor,” Mehlman told The Guardian. “That’s pretty galling.”

Bannon has strongly denied he’s anti-Semitic. Breitbart has taken a pro-Israel stance on some issues, but the website is also a haven for the alt-right, some of whose leaders, such as “white identitarian” Richard B. Spencer, have espoused Nazi propaganda.

Mehlman isn’t inclined to take Bannon at his word. “If he’s not anti-Semitic what do you have to do to be considered anti-Semitic?” Mehlman asked. “Shoot Woody Allen?”

The one compliment he will give Bannon is for his business acumen. The future Trump adviser made his “Seinfeld” deal when he worked at Goldman Sachs in the early ’90s.

“He made a ton of money. It was a smart decision,” Mehlman said.  “It doesn’t make him any less miserable as a human being.”

HBO announced Monday that it has started production on a multi-part, as-yet-untitled documentary about the late boxing champ, from James’ and Maverick Carter’s SpringHill Entertainment and Antoine Fuqua’s Fuqua Films. The network did not announce a premiere date.

Ali, a three-time heavyweight champion, died in June at age 74. HBO said the project was being produced with the full cooperation of the Ali estate and will include never-before-seen photos and footage from the fighter’s family.

“It’s tough to put into words how much it means to me to be a part of this project honoring the legacy and telling the extremely important story of the great Muhammad Ali,” James wrote in a statement. “He transcended sports and used his platform to empower people, which paved the way for all athletes and people of every race and gender that came after him, myself included. It’s important that his story continues for generations to come, and it’s an honor for SpringHill Entertainment and me to be a part of this.”

“Muhammad Ali meant many things to many people, and he is someone who had a deep impact on me from an early age,” Fuqua said in a statement. Fuqua’s previous films include “Training Day” as well as this year’s “The Magnificent Seven.”

The voters of the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. honored several new series that dug into the head-spinning paradoxes of contemporary America, most notably “This Is Us,” NBC’s drama that looks at the lives of interconnected (and multicultural) families past and present. Donald Glover’s “Atlanta,” nominated in the best comedy/musical category, is a sly look at the complexities and contradictions of race, hip-hop and counterculture.

Then there are those series that use the past as a not-too-distant mirror. Best drama nominee “Stranger Things,” Netflix’s period thriller, reinvented 1980s Spielberg-esque wonder as something darker and more sinister. FX’s miniseries “The People v. O.J. Simpson” led the Globe’s TV pack with 5 nods overall and reanimated seemingly every detail of the 1990s Trial of the Century. It found it all just as maddening and tortuous as it was the first time around.

Not enough dread for you? HBO’s sci-fi nightmare “Westworld,” another best-drama nominee, imagined a vertiginous amusement park populated with badly abused robots.

Of course, this being a Hollywood award show, Monday’s Globe nominations saw plenty of less adventurous nominees filling out the roster. Netflix’s “The Crown” — perhaps the most expensive TV series ever made — is a sumptuous, peek-inside-the-drawing-room look at the rise of Queen Elizabeth II. Fans who cherished the twilight-of-the-empire aura of “Downton Abbey” will feel right at home.

No knock on Julia Louis-Dreyfus and “Veep,” but HBO’s political satire has become an overly safe go-to for award-show voters. Globe voters’ ongoing fondness for Amazon’s classical-music dramedy “Mozart in the Jungle” — last year’s best comedy winner, nominated again this year — appears not to be contagious to the wider public.

And then there were the surprise nods, like Nick Nolte, of Epix’s little-seen political comedy “Graves,” in the best comedy actor category.

But the Globes, true to form, did a reasonably good job of staying focused on the new and the challenging, at least by series standards. For every “oh, of course” nominee, there was another welcome newcomer, such as the nod for Issa Rae, whose HBO comedy “Insecure” could grow into one of those definitive series that capture the early 21st century zeitgeist.

Speaking of that zeitgeist? That was probably best captured in 2016’s strangest show of all, one that came away with zero Globe nominations: The U.S. presidential election. But undoubtedly, that’s a story we will see retold in the years to come.

Margaret’s Senate run is a big part of the plot but, as we can see from this exclusive clip, she’s already facing pressures from the old boys’ network, who are hoping to rely on political backscratching to get deals done.

Trump’s spokeswoman confirmed this week that the president-elect will retain his executive producer title and continue taking a “big stake” in the reality show, which he co-produced with super-producer Mark Burnett (“Survivor,” “The Voice”).

How big? According to industry experts consulted by TheWrap, Trump is likely to make “mid-to-high five figures” per episode for his role as a passive executive producer, which typically involves limited to no work, at least on-set or in post-production. His total pay could wind up topping $1 million for the upcoming season of the new “Celebrity Apprentice” starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, which premieres Jan. 2. (NBC declined to comment.)

That’s a big improvement over the $400,000 salary earned by the President of the United States.

Trump probably made well in excess of $1 million annually just for the talent side of his deal, as “Apprentice” host, according to a reality TV agent who spoke on condition of anonymity. But he lost that lucrative arrangement when NBC parted ways with him in 2015, as Trump kicked off his White House bid. The executive producer title and fees, however, remained part of Trump’s contract with Burnett and the network — and those aren’t going away.

Speaking to reporters Friday, Schwarzenegger — himself an actor who turned to politics — depicted the arrangement as nothing new or unusual.

“I knew that from the beginning that he’s an executive producer on the show,” he said. “It’s no different than when I was running for governor [of California], my credit on ‘Terminator’ still said ‘Schwarzenegger, and everything stayed the same. And I continued getting the royalties and all that stuff.”

Trump’s deal, hammered out years ago, likely means that the “Apprentice” gravy train will keep rolling for years.

As executive producer, he is entitled to payments on “derivatives” of the show, which means money from international versions of the show, rebroadcasts and licensing for games, apps and the like. While “Apprentice” isn’t nearly the merchandising powerhouse it was 10 or 12 years ago, it could still spit out some serious cash.
