As expected, “Avengers: Endgame” is still bringing moviegoers to theaters in droves in its second weekend. On Friday, the film added $40.6 million to its domestic total, pushing it to $514 million after just eight days in theaters.

It took “Avengers: Infinity War” 11 days to gross $1 billion worldwide, and now “Endgame” will gross $2 billion in roughly that same time span. In the next week, the film will become one of the top three highest grossing films of all time, and is now in position to challenge the record of $2.78 billion set by “Avatar.” Regardless of whether or not it passes James Cameron’s film, “Endgame” will become one of the top 10 highest grossing after inflation adjustment.

On the domestic side, “Endgame” is currently estimated for a second weekend of $145 million. If Saturday over-indexes, it can break the $149.2 million second weekend record set by “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” As it stands, “Endgame” is set to have a 10-day domestic total of $619 million, putting it on course to pass the domestic totals of “The Avengers” and “Infinity War” in the coming week.

Against this cultural behemoth, three new releases hit theaters this weekend, and all of them are falling below tracking expectations for a low teens opening. The one that has gotten closest is Sony/Screen Gems’ “The Intruder,” which grossed $3.9 million from 2,222 screens on Friday and is projected for a $10.4 million opening. Despite the presence of “Endgame,” “The Intruder” should make a modest profit, as it was made on a thrifty $8 million budget. It was panned by critics with a 28% Rotten Tomatoes score and received a B- on CinemaScore.

In third is Lionsgate’s romantic comedy “Long Shot,” which is sitting just behind “The Intruder” with an estimated $10 million opening. For director Jonathan Levine and star Seth Rogen, this is roughly the same opening as their 2015 collaboration, “The Night Before.” The film has been well received, earning an 83% Rotten Tomatoes score and a B on CinemaScore.

Both Levine and Rogen have signed first-look deals with Lionsgate for their respective studios, Megamix and Point Grey Pictures, as Lionsgate is looking to turn around their box office woes through deals with filmmakers. Lionsgate will release another film, “John Wick: Chapter 3,” later this month.

In fourth is STXfilms/Alibaba’s animated film “UglyDolls,” which is projected for an $8.8 million opening against a $45 million budget co-financed by the two studios. The film has a B+ on CinemaScore and a 36% Rotten Tomatoes score. Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel,” which has legged out very well thanks to renewed interest from “Avengers,” completes the top five with an estimated $4.1 million in its ninth weekend.
