‘Bad Grandpa’ Edges ‘Free Birds,’ ‘Last Vegas’ for No. 2 at Weekend Box Office

Three movies tied behind “Thor” as of Sunday, but Monday’s numbers made the raunchy comedy the runner-up

With “Thor: The Dark World” dominating the weekend box office with its $86 million opening, the box office suspense came from the race for No. 2 – and “Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa” has won it by just over $100,000.

Monday’s box-office results revealed the Johnny Knoxville comedy from MTV Films took in $11.3 million. The animated family film “Free Birds” was second at $11.18 million and the old-guy comedy “Last Vegas” came in third at $11.1 million, according to Exhibitor Relations Co.

The three movies were in a virtual dead heat on Sunday, when the studios were estimating their Sunday attendance.

No one is too disappointed. All three films held very well.

“Bad Grandpa” dropped just 44 percent in its third week and has taken in $78.7 million and now looks it will hit$100 million.

The domestic total for “Free Birds” is $30 million after the holiday family film fell just 29 percent in its second weekend.

“Last Vegas” was off just 32 percent in its second week and upped its domestic total to $33.5 million.
