Tsunami Warnings Disrupt ‘Breaking Dawn,’ Jimmy Kimmel, Sony Facilities

The devastating 9.1 earthquake that hit Japan on Thursday shuts down parts of the entertainment industry

Tsunami warnings after Japan's 9.1 earthquake forced "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn" to shut down production, Jimmy Kimmel to abandon an island where he was vacationing and Sony to halt work at six factories — just a few of the ways it has touched the entertainment industry along with those devastated by the disaster.

A representative for "Twilight" confirmed Friday that the cast and crew had left the Vancouver island where they were shooting. "Everyone is safe and sound," the rep said in a statement.

Actress Tinsel Korey, who portrays Emily in the "Twilight" films, tweeted earlier on Friday morning, "They're evacuating us 4 a tsumnani [sic] warning. If this this is my last my tweet. I love you."

Some of Kimmel's followers initially thought he was kidding when he tweeted that he was vacationing on a small island in South Polynesia. Asked how scared he was on a scale of 1 to 10, Kimmel replied, "A good, solid 7. on a small island, with no high ground."

Apparently, it was no joke, He tweeted shortly thereafter, "We are evacuating the island. Dogspeed."

Sony Corporation, meanwhile, was forced to shut down production at several factories that manufacture Blu-ray discs, magnetic heads and batteries due to the earthquake and tsunami. According to Sony, one factory in particular, in Miyagi, Japan, was hit by the tsunami, flooding the ground floor. According to Sony, "We are not able to accurately identify the damages to our factories at this moment."

There were also reports that production on CBS' "Hawaii 5-0" had been suspended due to tsunami concerns, most like due to series star Daniel Dae Kim's tweet on Friday that read, "Back at work, bleary eyed & heartsick, but very grateful. As far as I know, everyone is safe. Thx 2 all of you 4 your kind thoughts. Truly." However, it appears that the series' production hasn't been affected by the tsunami, at least for the time being.

TheWrap has reached out to the networks and numerous production companies regarding further production shut-downs in Vancouver and Hawaii. So far, none of them have reported that any other productions have been affected by the tsunami or tsnami warnings. TheWrap will provide updates here if we receive reports of further shutdowns.
