Cablevision Deal Brings OWN’s Availability to 85M Homes

Cable provider covers much of New York metro area

OWN, the Oprah Winfrey cable channel debuting Saturday, will be carried by Cablevision in an agreement announced by the companies Tuesday.

Cablevision, which serves much of the New York metro area, was one of the last openings in OWN's coverage area. The additional 3.5 million subscribers mean OWN will be available in around 85 million homes, a channel spokeswoman told TheWrap.

OWN will replace Discovery Health Channel, which is already carried by other distributors, including Comcast and DirecTV. Cablevision was an important addition because it did not carry Discovery Health Channel.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
