There had previously been reports that the South African-born actress would star in the film, but the deal has now been closed.

Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez and Tyrese Gibson are set to return for the eighth film in the franchise, with F. Gary Gray directing. It is set for an April 14, 2017 release.

TheWrap reported Wednesday that “Game of Thrones” actor Kristofer Hivju joined the cast of “Fast 8” as well, to play one of Theron’s henchmen.

Theron’s upcoming projects include this month’s “The Huntsman: Winter’s War,” and she is currently filming “The Last Face” and “American Express.”

Theron is repped by WME and 42West.
