The rumors that circulated over Golden Globe weekend were true, as Christian Bale has pulled out of Michael Mann‘s biopic of iconic automaker Enzo Ferrari due to health concerns, TheWrap has learned.

Production had been slated to start this spring in Italy, but the Oscar-nominated actor was reluctant to put on the weight that the role requires.

Paramount is set to distribute “Enzo Ferrari,” with YooZoo Pictures releasing the film in China. YooZoo is co-financing the film with Vendian Entertainment.

Troy Kennedy-Martin wrote the script, which was then revised by David Rayfield and Mann. It’s based on the Enzo Ferrari biography written by Brock Yates.

Mann is already talking to A-list actors to play Ferrari, and we think that Oscar Isaac, Bale’s co-star in “The Promise,” would make a great replacement behind the wheel.
