CNN Sets TV Premiere Date for BASE-Jumping Doc ‘Sunshine Superman’ (Exclusive)

The documentary about “the father of BASE jumping” had its worldwide film premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival

“Sunshine Superman,” a documentary following “the father of BASE jumping” Carl Boenish, will make its television premiere on CNN next month, TheWrap has learned.

The news network set Jan. 17 at 9 p.m. ET and again at midnight for the initial broadcasts of the documentary, which CNN Films acquired as TV distributor amid its world debut at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this year.

Magnolia Pictures was the North American theatrical distributor of the picture this year, with CNN Films holding television rights for 2016.

The film will be available on desktop streaming at, as well as on iPad, Apple TV, Roku, and across CNN’s mobile platforms.  After the broadcast premiere, the film will be On Demand for seven days via CNNgo.

Boenish helped coin the acronym “BASE,” which stands for building, antenna, span, and earth — the various objects from which Carl and his friends would jump.
