San Diego Comic-Con’s upcoming free virtual event, Comic-Con@Home, will be almost entirely prerecorded, TheWrap has learned exclusively.
SDCC’s online con will take place July 22-26 and feature between 300 and 400 virtual panels, almost all of which will be filmed ahead of time by their respective studios, networks, publishers and other hosting organizations and submitted in advance, a spokesperson for Comic-Con International told TheWrap Monday.
According to the representative, the organization does not currently “anticipate anything live” for Comic-Con@Home, but it is possible there will be “live elements to some programming.”
This means that fan Q&As, obviously, are out, though the spokesperson says some studios and shows have reached out to their communities via social media to ask for questions in advance.

San Diego Comic-Con 2020 was canceled in April due to the coronavirus pandemic, marking the first time the annual pop culture event won’t happen as planned in its 50-year history. In May, Comic-Con International revealed it would be holding a free virtual con in lieu of the traditional in-person con.
The official schedule for Comic-Con@Home will begin rolling out Wednesday, two weeks ahead of the pop culture event, as has been tradition for the in-person con as well.
