Cynthia Nixon is mulling a run for governor of New York, multiple outlets reported Tuesday.

The “Sex and the City” star is considering a primary challenge from the left to the sitting Democrat governor, Andrew Cuomo, and has already met with veteran New York City political consultants, Rebecca Katz and Bill Hyers, New York 1 reported.

Neither Katz or Hyers responded to request for comment from TheWrap.

In a statement to TheWrap, Nixon’s team remained coy about her ultimate ambitions.

“Many concerned New Yorkers have been encouraging Cynthia to run for office, and as she has said previously, she will continue to explore it. If and when such a decision is made, Cynthia will be sure to make her plans public,” said her publicist
Rebecca Sides Capellan.

Cuomo, brother to CNN anchor Chris Cuomo, has long been a part of the New York democratic politics. His father Mario Cuomo also led the state as governor for three terms between 1983 and 1994. Despite the legacy, Andrew’s leadership of the state has come under growing criticism in recent months, with particular ire saved for regular users of New York City’s crumbling subway system.

A series of New York Times investigations published in recent months raised additional questions about his stewardship over the century-old system. In one example, the governor raided funds earmarked for the subway to bail out a ski-slope in upstate New York, the Times reported.

Zephyr Teachout, an unknown primary challenger against Cuomo, snagged 34 percent of the vote in 2014.
