Dan Fierman Out as MTV News Editorial Director

Grantland alum started Viacom job in November 2015

Dan Fierman attends Ellie Awards 2017 at Cipriani, Wall Street on February 7, 2017 in New York City.

Dan Fierman is out as MTV News editorial director, TheWrap has learned.

“Dan has made great contributions to MTV News and we thank him for his passion and tireless work ethic,” a spokesperson for MTV News told TheWrap. “MTV News is committed to examining the world from the perspective of our audience, and we look forward to continuing to grow its impact and expand its reach.”

A person close to MTV News tells us that interim leadership has been put in place as the search for Fierman’s replacement begins. This source also told us that MTV News will remain a priority for the network, which is beginning to evolve its focus from written coverage to video-based reporting.

Grantland alum Fierman began the Viacom job in November 2015. Officially, his title back at Grantland (before it closed in October 2015) was senior director of editorial operations for ESPN. Prior to that job, he spent about four years at GQ and nearly 10 at Entertainment Weekly.

Fierman had no comment on his exodus when reached by TheWrap. He did tell us that he’ll remain at MTV for two more weeks.
