On DVD Rental Charts, ‘Killers’ Rubs Out ‘Date Night’

“The Office: Season Six” debuts strongly in advance of next week’s season premiere

Box office bomb “Killers” topped the DVD sales and rental charts last week, according to Rentrak.

The Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl action romance unseated “Date Night” from its spot atop the rental list where it had held first place for the past month. The Steve Carell and Tiny Fey comedy had to settle for runner-up.

The week’s other debut, critically acclaimed indie drama “Solitary Man” was the fifth most rented disc but failed to register on the sales chart. The top-selling discs were dominated not by theatrical releases, but by compilations of television shows.

In advance of its premiere next week, season six of “The Office” took second place on the sales chart. “Supernatural: The Complete Fifth Season” and “Smallville: The Complete Ninth Season” rode anticipation for the upcoming fall television series to fourth and fifth place on the list.

The Disney Channel's original movie “Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam” and its tween icon stars the Jonas Brothers also debuted strongly, nabbing sixth place on the sales chart.

Next week brings the release of the Queen Latifah's romantic comedy “Just Wright” and Amanda Seyfried’s chick flick “Letters to Juliet.”
