"Behind the Candelabra" director Steven Soderbergh was one of the most nominated individuals on Thursday morning, but you wouldn't know it from looking at the official list of Emmy nominees released by the television academy.
That's because in what might be some kind of oddball Emmy record, only one of Soderbergh's three nominations, for directing the HBO film about Liberace, was under his real name.
Soderbergh also served as his film's cinematographer and editor, but he did both under pseudonyms he's used in the past.

In the Outstanding Cinematography for a Miniseries or Movie category, Soderbergh is nominated under the name Peter Andrews, which he has used to shoot more than a dozen movies and a number of television episodes in the past.
For Outstanding Single-Camera Editing for a Miniseries or Movie, he's listed as Mary Ann Bernard.
Both aliases are based on family names: Peter Andrews comes from his father's first and middle names, while Mary Ann Bernard is his mother's maiden name.
Soderbergh has used the names on a number of his films, including "Side Effects," "Magic Mike" and "Haywire."

He first used the Andrews name on "Traffic," when the Writers Guild wouldn't allow him to take the credit "Photographed and Directed by Steven Soderbergh" because it would place another credit ahead of the film's writing credit.
Other notable nominations for aliases in recent years include two Oscar noms for cinematography for Roderick Jaynes, the pseudonym that the Coen brothers use to shoot their films, and an Oscar writing nomination for Charlie Kaufman's fictitious brother Donald Kaufman for "Adaptation."
For the record: Cameraman Hector Ramirez also got three Emmy nominations, but they were all under his own name. And Louis C.K. got nine nominations — all in his name, unless you consider "Louis C.K." to itself be an alias for the guy born Louis Szekely.
