‘Empire’ Season 2 Premiere Sets Twitter Ablaze: ‘Incredible,’ ‘Crazy,’ ‘Never Disappoints’

“I wish it was a two hour episode,” is the only complaint Twitter users have of the Fox hip-hop drama’s long-awaited return

(Spoiler alert: Please do not read on if you have not watched Wednesday’s episode of “Empire”)

Following an historic freshman run, “Empire” fans were counting down the days for the hip-hop drama to return to Fox, and Wednesday’s Season 2 premiere did not disappoint.

Even from behind bars, record-label head Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) still exercised his control over both his business and his family, while ex-wife Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) drummed up support for the convict with a #FreeLucious concert.

Chris Rock made his debut as Frank Gathers, a man from Lucious’ past who is also a prisoner in the same jail. Rather than your run-of-the-mill criminal, Gathers is actually a creepy cannibal with a taste for human flesh.

Other guest stars for Season 2 include Marisa Tomei — as millionaire investor Mimi Whiteman — Alicia Keys and Lenny Kravitz.

Jussie Smollett, as Lucious and Cookie’s gay son Jamal, has been praised for playing one of the most high-profile gay characters on TV, and one Twitter user told the actor, “We appreciate you.”

Promising all the family drama, star power, killer soundtracks and stellar performances of Season 1, the sophomore outing it set to repeat the show’s freshman-year success.

The only complaint on social media about the new episode was that it wasn’t two hours long, and viewers have to wait until next week to watch Episode 2.

“Season 2 about to be incredible,” wrote one very excited viewer.

“Empire” airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on Fox.
