Entertainment has acquired North American rights to “Freaky Deaky,” Charlie Matthau’s adaptation of the Elmore Leonard novel of the same name.
Matthau, son of famed actor Walter, both wrote and directed the film, which stars Crispin Glover, Billy Burke, Christian Slater and Michael Jai White.
Burke plays Chris Mankowski, a cop in Detroit’s sex crimes unit who falls for a victim on his first day. He is also suspended for investigating the rich and powerful Woody Ricks, played by Glover.
The film is intended as an homage to 1974.
“Elmore Leonard’s work has inspired so many great films over the years,” Michael E. Rosenberg, President of eOne Films US, said in a statement. “Entertainment One is incredibly excited to bring this new, star-studded adaptation of 'Freaky Deaky' to North American audiences.”
Matthau directed "The Grass Harp," starring his father, Jack Lemmon and Sissy Spacek. He is in pre-production on "The Sugar Shack," a comedy about a male stripper in Wisconsin that he is directing.
