Ex-Verizon Exec Paul Brigner Named MPAA Chief Technology Policy Officer

Brigner will work on intellectual property issues

The Motion Picture Association of America has named former Verizon executive Paul Brigner as its new chief technology policy officer, a new position within the organization.

Brigner will be the lead executive on technology issues affecting intellectual property and will work on industry-wide standards to make it easier for consumers to access digital content. will report to president and interim CEO Bob Pisano, and be based in Washington, D.C., beginning next week.

"With his counsel, we will continue to strike a balance between protecting the intellectual property rights of our members and our continuing desire to provide fans around the world with the content they enjoy in the format of their choice," Pisano said in a statement.

Brigner most recently served as executive director of Internet and technology policy for Verizon. He previously held senior positions as chief software architect and senior consultant for technology companies Digital Focus and Cambridge Technology Partners.
