First Lady to Log Extra TV Time On Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Weekend

Mrs. Obama will be a guest on Nickelodeon’s “iCarly” as part of campaign to honor America’s military families; she’ll also be taping “BET Honors”

First Lady Michelle Obama will be logging extra TV time during the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend.

On Saturday, Mrs. Obama will join various luminaries for the taping of the fifth annual "BET Honors" 2012 show, and on Monday, the national Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, she will appear on Nickelodeon's "iCarly" in an episode entitled “iMeet The First Lady.”

The show is part of Mrs. Obama’s ongoing efforts with the Joining Forces organization,
which works to highlight and honor the sacrifices made by American military families.

In “iMeet The First Lady,” the show’s lead character, Carly Shay (Miranda Cosgrove) plays the daughter of an Air Force Colonel serving overseas. Mrs. Obama thanks Carly for her service to America as a member of a military family.

Mrs. Obama will also appear in a Joining Forces PSA produced by Nickelodeon that will
debut immediately following the episode.

The "iCarly" cast hosted special screenings of “iMeet the First Lady” for military kids at military bases across the country, and Mrs. Obama was scheduled to join the cast at the final tour stop at Hayfield Secondary School, in Alexandria, Va., on Friday.

The "BET Honors" will honor the achievements of Maya Angelou, Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, Spike Lee, The Tuskegee Airmen and Beverly Kearney.at the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C. Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle, Cicely Tyson, Common, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Rowland and Robin Thicke, as well as Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard, Willow Smith, Jill Scott and John Singleton are also expected at the event.

The show is scheduled to air Feb. 13, at 9 p.m.
