Fox, Disney Both Prepping ‘20,000 Leagues’ Adaptations

Public-domain story suddenly the basis for dueling projects

A day after it broke the news that David Fincher is jumping aboard Disney’s "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" adaptation, the Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Fox is working on its own version of the Jules Verne classic.
Ridley and Tony Scott and their Scott Free Prods. are developing the Fox version with "Clash of the Titans" co-writer Travis Beacham working on the script.
The "20,000 Leagues" story is in the public domain, so there are no limits on its adaptation.
