Fox News contributor Rachel Campos-Duffy defended detention centers for undocumented migrants at the U.S. border, saying that several African-Americans told her that the centers looked better than the housing projects they grew up in.
“I spoke to some African-Americans who say, ‘Gosh, the conditions of the detention centers are better than some of the projects that I grew up in,’” Campos-Duffy said on the set of Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” on Thursday.
“The detention centers are far safer than the journey that these children just came on,” she added. “People aren’t stupid.”
Campos-Duffy did not elaborate on with who she spoke with.
This is the second time that the show has used some choice comparisons to defend the detention centers that separated undocumented migrant children from their parents. Earlier this week, Laura Ingraham sparked her own mini-controversy after saying that the centers reminded her of “summer camps.”
The moment took off so quickly that it required an on-air clarification by the host at the end of the program.
“Apparently there are a lot of people very upset because we referred to some of the detention facilities tonight as essentially like summer camps,” Ingraham said. “The San Diego Union-Tribune today described the facilities as essentially like what you would expect at a boarding school. So I will stick to there are some of them like boarding schools. And I suggest that a lot of the folks who are worried about that spend more time in Central America. I have.”
The moment sparked renewed calls for a boycott by Parkland shooting survivor David Hogg, whose last boycott led to the departure of dozens of sponsors from the show.

“Fox News will never tolerate or give in to attempts to silence diverse viewpoints by agenda-driven intimidation efforts,” said the network in a statement to TheWrap in response to Hogg.
