The cable network is teaming with celebrated crime writer Ellroy ("L.A. Confidential," "The Black Dahlia") to develop a new one-hour drama based on Ellroy's 2012 online novella "Shakedown."

The project, set in the tabloid world and underbelly of Los Angeles circa the late 1950s, will center on Fred Otash, the city's top informant/operator/wire tapper/fixer. Otash "lives and works where the glamour and the grime intersect," according to a description of the project.
