FX and Louis C.K. are partnering on a new comedy pilot titled “Better Things starring “Louie” alum Pamela Adlon. Additionally, the cable channel will air a standup special from C.K.’s current tour, FX Networks and FX Productions CEO John Landgraf announced  during Sunday’s Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena.

C.K. and Adlon will executive produce and co-write the pilot with C.K. also set to direct. Blair Breard and Dave Becky are set to executive produce the pilot with 3 Arts Entertainment and FX Productions.

Here’s FX’s description of the new pilot:

On “Better Things,” Adlon plays Sam, a working actor trying to earn a living, navigate her daughters’ lives, have fun with a friend or two, and also – just maybe – squeeze in some sex once in a while. Her life is funny to watch, but you wouldn’t want to live it (except sometimes).

Adlon is a two-time Emmy award nominee for “Louie.” Her work on “Louie” has also earned her a WGA Award and two PGA Award nominations. She won an Emmy for her voiceover performance as Bobby Hill on “King of the Hill.”

The standup special will be filmed from C.K.’s current tour, which has already sold out a record three dates at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. The special will run first on C.K.’s website for a fee before airing on FX. More details will be released as the network shores up the deal.

“Better Things” is the fifth comedy series pilot produced or ordered by FX Networks within the past year, including the comedy series pilots “Atlanta,” created by and starring “Community” alum Donald Glover, and “Pariah,” starring Bill Burr for “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” team Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton.
