(Spoiler alert: Do not keep reading if you did not see the Season 6 finale of “Game of Thrones”)
The season finale of “Game of Thrones” moved the story along in several major ways, but it could have also set the stage for a reunion between two key characters.
Back in Season 3, Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) had a brief encounter with Melisandre (Carice van Houten) when she was a guest of the Brotherhood Without Banners. During that meeting, Melisandre prophecized that Arya would kill many people and that they would meet again.
Up to this point, the two have been in opposite parts of Westeros and even on different continents. But all that changed in the finale.
Arya returned to Westeros and killed Walder Frey using skills she picked up in Braavos. Meanwhile, Melisandre had been staying in Winterfell with Jon Snow and his army, but she was banished to the South after Davos exposed that she had Princess Shireen burned alive.
It would make sense that Arya would head for Winterfell, and with Melisandre on her way South, the two could find themselves in each other’s company before you know it. And since Melisandre was right about Arya’s growing proficiency with dispatching death, the second half of her prophecy could very well come true.
