The Gibson Amphitheatre will close its doors in September, Live Nation Entertainment said Wednesday.
The venue, which opened in 1972 as Universal Amphitheatre and is located at Universal Studios Hollywood, will be replaced by the Wizarding World of Harry Potter attraction.
The venue — which was rechistened the Gibson Amphitheatre in 2005, had events scheduled for after September 2013; ticketholders for those events are encouraged by Live Nation to hold onto their tickets, as the concert promoter is attempting to find new venues for those shows. Refunds will be given for shows that aren't able to be relocated, Live Nation said.

Live Nation added that it is assembling "a very special lineup of shows" as a fitting farewell for the venue, with details to be announced in the near future.

"It is a tremendous venue with a uniquely intimate setting that has made it a very special place for fans and artists alike. The list of musicians that have played here is simply staggering. We are honored to have been a part of its remarkable story. While a change like this is difficult, we look forward to putting together a series of great shows that will celebrate everything about this marvelous building."
In addition to the countless concerts that have taken place at the venue — a list that includes performers ranging from Frank Sinatra to Johnny Cash to David Bowie to Lil' Wayne — the venue has played host to numerous awards ceremonies, such as the MTV Movie Awards, Teen Choice Awards and the Academy of Country Music Awards. HBO's Comic Relief charity event has also been held at the venue.
