Social media users are singing the praises of Leonardo DiCaprio for advocating for indigenous people while accepting his Golden Globe.
“I want to share this award with all the First Nations people represented in this film and all the indigenous communities around the world,” the “Revenant” star said on stage Sunday night. “It is time that we recognize your history and that we protect your indigenous lands from corporate interests and people that are out there to exploit them.”
“It is time that we heard your voice and protect this planet for future generations,” he concluded.
Viewers on Twitter called his comments “important” and “eloquent.”
“I think I just fell in love with @LeoDiCaprio talking about protecting indigenous peoples & their lands at the #GoldenGlobes,” wrote one user. “Well done Leo.”
