TV Land has ordered the “Heathers” anthology to series, the network announced Friday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour.

The first season is a 10-episode order and is set to premiere in Fall 2017. Based on the 1988 cult classic film of the same name, “Heathers” is a dark comedy anthology set in the present day, as our heroine Veronica Sawyer (Grace Victoria Cox) deals with a very different but equally vicious group of Heathers.

If picked up for multiple seasons, the new anthology series is expected to feature a different group of Heathers in each outing.

Also starring are James Scully as JD, Melanie Field as Heather Chandler, Brendan Scannell as Heather Duke, and Jasmine Mathews as Heather McNamara. It was also revealed in November that original “Heathers” cast member Shannen Doherty will guest star as an unnamed character in the TV Land series.

Jason Micallef, who wrote the pilot script, will serve as executive producer and showrunner, and Leslye Headland directed and was an executive producer on the pilot. Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi executive produce for Lakeshore Entertainment. Brad Gardner will executive produce for TV Land.

The original film starred Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, in which the two team up in a dark plot to kill off all the cool kids at their high school.
