Henry Cavill’s Superman Costume on Display in New ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ Set Photo

While only slightly different from the suit he wore in “Man of Steel,” Cavill made minimal effort to cover the costume beneath a black robe

First look at Henry Cavill returning as Superman
Warner Bros.

Henry Cavill isn’t doing anything particularly super in the newest photo released from the set of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” but he certainly looks pretty “Super” doing it. The photo spotlights Cavill in Superman’s classic costume, which is only slightly different than the one he wore in 2013’s “Man of Steel.”

Perhaps that’s why he was making minimal effort — if any at all — to cover the costume in the voluminous black robe he was wearing. It’s not nearly as exciting a reveal as Ben Affleck‘s Batman costume or Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman suit. MTV had the exclusive image.

So maybe the reveal of Henry Cavill in a Superman costume isn’t such a big deal, considering he just wore one last year, but it does further cement “Dawn of Justice” as a sequel of sorts to “Man of Steel,” and the first step in DC Comics finally building out their own larger superhero movie universe, like Marvel’s been doing for several years.

Plus, it will allow fanboys and girls to pick apart the suit and note the differences from the “Man of Steel” version, and fanboys and girls love doing stuff like that.

Notice how this one seems to spotlight a Superman who is even more muscular, toned and bulked up than he was in “Man of Steel?” Maybe it’s indicative of the additional years he’s spent soaking up the rays of Earth’s yellow sun. Maybe he found a Kryptonian tailor.

Or maybe we’re not supposed to notice things like that and just shut up and enjoy the movie already.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” has more than a year left to build fandom into a frothing frenzy. The Zack Snyder-directed film isn’t set for release until March 25, 2016. Written by Chris Terrio from a story by Snyder and David S. Goyer, the film is produced by Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder. Cavill, Affleck and Gadot are joined in the cast by Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jesse Eisenberg and Jeremy Irons.
