Hillary Clinton Joins Instagram, Declares Herself a ‘Doting Grandmother’

Don’t worry, though: She still wants your vote

Hillary Clinton, who launched her presidential campaign in April via YouTube, is once again harnessing the power of the Internet to make a very important announcement: She loves her granddaughter.

Oh, and that she’s still running for president.

The former First Lady and Secretary of State launched her Instagram account on Wednesday. The accompanying biography for the account was a curious mix of personal and political.

“Doting grandmother, among other things,” the bio reads, followed by the hashtag #Hillary2016 and a link to her campaign page.

Clinton’s daughter Chelsea gave birth to her own daughter, Charlotte, in September.

So far, Clinton’s Instagram account has 11,000 followers.

Hard choices.

The presidential candidate appears to be carving out a strategy of blending family life and political aspirations via social media. Clinton’s Twitter bio reads: “Wife, mom, grandma, women+kids advocate, FLOTUS, Senator, SecState, hair icon, pantsuit aficionado, 2016 presidential candidate.”

Her Facebook bio, meanwhile, identifies Clinton as “Wife, mom, grandma, lawyer, women & kids advocate, FLOAR, FLOTUS, US Senator, SecState, author, dog owner, hair icon, pantsuit aficionado, glass ceiling cracker, 2016 presidential candidate.”

Her pared-down, more casual Instagram bio could signify an attempt to soften the former Secretary of State’s image. It’s an unusual angle to take, but then announcing one’s fondness for one’s granddaughter is far less controversial than some of the declarations made by her fellow candidates on social media.
