HLN anchor Yasmin Vossoughian was trolled by a guest claiming to be an Edward Snowden supporter during a segment on “The Daily Share” Wednesday morning.
Vossoughian was discussing Snowden’s recent Twitter debut with Jon Hendren, known by his Twitter handle @fart, when it slowly became clear that the comedian’s responses were subversively referencing the Johnny Depp character Edward Scissorhands.
Hendren began the interview with more ambiguous comments like, “He’s been isolated for so long,” but once the anchor showed a clip of Snowden being interviewed by John Oliver, he started to get more specific.
“Well, you know, to say that he couldn’t harm somebody with what he did — he could, absolutely, he could,” says Hendren. “But to cast him out, to make him invalid in society simply because he has scissors for hands — I mean, that’s strange. People didn’t get scared until he started sculpting shrubs into dinosaur shapes and whatnot.”
Vossoughian didn’t miss a beat, continuing to ask questions related to Snowden without acknowledging the confusion.
“Well, Jon,” said Vossoughian upon concluding the interview, “I appreciate you giving us your opinion.”
Hendren later took to Twitter to explain:
in all sincerity i really did believe we were talking about Edward Scissorhands
